Story :Pawan Kalyan plays the role of a stubborn cop, Venkat Ratnam Naidu, in kondaveedu.
He is well known for his eccentricity and also for his corruption.
As a kid, he watches ‘Sholay‘ movie and gets inspired with villain character and renames himself as Gabbar Singh.
He grows up to become a police officer, who is posted to his hometown ‘kondaveedu‘, where he is brought face to face with Siddhappa Naidu (Abhimanyu Singh), who is a local goonda and a political aspirant.
Gabbar Singh also has a mother(suhasini), who remarries and lives with her family in same town.
While dealing with local goondas and politics, Gabbar Singh meets Bhagya Lakshmi (Shruti Haasan) and falls in love with her.
But bhagya’s father(Kota) is a habitual drunkard, who needs to be convinced for their marriage.
Now, Gabbar has to deal with his love, other problems created due to his step father and his son etc.
How he deals with all of them with his eccentric behaviour, needs to watched on big screen.
Performances : Pawan excells with his thikka as a tough police.
His dialogues, mannerisms, comedy timing, action, dances all will go well with fans.
He got a much better character to perform after long time and he doesn’t disappoint anyone.
Shruti Haasan looks beautiful but she still carries somewhat modern woman attitude, which mismatches for her village-belle character.
But her screen presence is very much limited.
Abhimanyu Singh doesn’t do anything better or different than he did as ‘bukka reddy’ in ‘rakta charitra’.
Comedy by Brahmanandam as ‘Recovery agent Ranjith Kumar’, Ali as ‘constable samba’ is hilarious.
Especially the combination scenes of Pawan and Ali as ‘Gabbar Singh’ and ‘Samba’ are the best.
Rao Ramesh has a guest appearance, while Nagineedu as hero’s stepfather, Suhasini as his mother live upto their roles.
Ajay as hero’s stepbrother, and Kota as heroine’s father, are two wasted actors, though their characters had scope for performance.
Tanikella Bharani does an insignificant character for his stature.
‘Happy Days’ gayatri got a small role as shruti’s friend, and she comes up with a surprising performance.
Malaika Arora Khan sizzles in the item song Kevvu Keka.
Analysis : Gabbar Singh is an adaptation of Salman Khan’s Dabangg and not a 100% remake.
About 30-40% screenplay has been changed for telugu version.
Pawan’s entry in rickshaw with ee petaku nene mestri song in background, antyakshari scene in police station, romantic track between the lead pair, picturization of all songs, action sequences are good.
Odds are lady voice who dubbed for shruti haasan, lack of emotional depth and drama between hero and his family towards climax.
Director Harish Shankar, just like his previous movie Mirapakaay, has concentrated on projecting the hero with eccentricity and trademark comedy in first half, but missed out on gripping narration and strong emotional drama in second half.
Production values of Parameswara Arts are good.
Cinematography by Jayanan Vincent, Action sequences by Ram-Lakshman, D.I and coloring are excellent. Editing is okay.
Dialogues written by Harish Shankar, Devi Sri Prasad’s background score are worth mentioning.
Bottomline : A must watch movie for pawanfans, as he returns with energetic performance after long time.
Its a treat to watch his high voltage performance on screen.
For others too, it would be entertaining, as long as you keep your intellectual brains shut towards climax.
Overall, its a KEVVU KEKA….. movie for fans.
